Movie critic Roger Ebert lost his battle with cancer yesterday. Ebert had written for the Chicago Sun-Times since 1967, hosted numerous movie review shows with fellow critic and friend Gene Siskle (who sadly passed away in 1999) and actually trademarked the phrases "thumbs up" and "thumbs down"

Ebert was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in 2002 and then cancer of the salivary gland in 2003. Sadly the cancer spread to his jaw, which had to be removed in 2006.

Ebert was 70 years old.
