Maryland To Raise Minimum Wage to $15 per Hour

WJLA has reported via the Associated Press that Maryland will raise their minimum wage from $10.10 an hour to $15 an hour, becoming just the 6th state to do so.

The plan is estimated to happen over the next 6 years, with 2025 being the first year to present that full wage. According to the report, "The measure will raise the state's minimum wage from $10.10 to $15 an hour by 2025. The first increase will be to $11 next year. Businesses with fewer than 14 employees will have until July of 2026 to reach $15."

Gov. Larry Hogan originally vetoed the bill, reasoning that this increase would hurt the state.

The other 5 states that have already increased their minimum wage are California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York. D.C. has also approved the $15 an hour minimum wage and that is set to be active come July 1, 2020.
