For the first time, an American has contracted the coronavirus but the origin of how they obtained the disease remains a mystery.
According to ABC News, "it's the first COVID-19 case of unknown origin in the United States, indicating there could be "community spread," which means the virus is circulating among the local community and infecting people, including some who are not sure how or where they became infected, according to the CDC."
The patient resides in Solano County in California and marks the United States' 60th diagnosis of coronavirus. Dr. Sonia Angell, director of the California Department of Public Health, said in a statement Wednesday night, "We have been anticipating the potential for such a case in the U.S. and given our close familial, social and business relationships with China, it is not unexpected that the first case in the U.S. would be in California."
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention identifies symptoms of the coronavirus disease as fever, cough and shortness of breath and believe they may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after initial exposure. At this time there is no vaccine for the coronavirus,
