The Maryland National Guard is saluting frontline workers with a special flyover today, May 8.
The flyover will start at approx. 1:45PM in Bel Air and then travel over Frederick, Waldorf, Salisbury, Easton, Annapolis, Columbia, Towson and Baltimore. It is noted that there will be an approx. 20-minute delay between Salisbury and Easton for a training exercise. The Maryland National Guard acknowledged on Twitter that there is a typo on the official graphic and that they are expected to fly over Towson around 3:12PM. Times are subject to change, but the salute is expected to end around 3:30PM.
According to maryland.gov, "A formation of four A-10C Thunderbolt II aircraft will conduct the flyovers on Friday as a salute to recognize healthcare workers, first responders, military, and other essential personnel, as well as those staying at home to “flatten the curve” of the COVID-19 pandemic."
"The round-the-state flyovers are part of the U.S. Air Force’s OPERATION: AMERICAN RESOLVE and are being conducted in conjunction with regularly scheduled training. The aircraft will flyover local hospitals, nursing homes, food distribution locations, COVID-19 testing sites and other locations throughout the state."
Residents are reminded to practice social distancing when observing the salute, avoid large gatherings and refrain from traveling.
