After a year of suspended parking enforcement, DC is resuming tickets beginning this week.
In a report from the DCist, they said "on March 22, the city will start issuing $25 tickets to cars violating parking rules in school zones."
In addition to cars in no-parking sections of school zones, here is who else is subject to being ticketed again at this time:
- Non-commercial vehicles parked in commercial loading zones
- Large vehicles parked illegally next to parks, churches, schools, and residential domiciles
- Illegal parking in or near bike lanes, crosswalks, fire hydrants, and other illegal parking that presents a safety violation (other examples include blocking bus stops or handicap parking spaces)
- Parking in no-parking areas in school zones (tickets will start being issued on March 22)
Due to the pandemic loosening restrictions, DC's potential revenue from parking violations was nearly cut in half - bringing in $122 million in 2019 compared to $62 million in 2020.
Emergency no-parking violations, expired residential parking permits, and expired meters are not yet being enforced, but will resume in the "near future." Expired license plates and inspection stickers will follow those at a later date.
