Car Rams Capitol Barricade, Injures 2 Officers; Prompts Lockdown

UPDATE: Law enforcement has shared that the suspect is dead, according to ABC News. After they rammed their vehicle into a barricade, they exited the car by foot with a weapon before being shot by police.

The U.S. Capitol Police have shared that an individual "rammed a vehicle into two USCP officers" at the vehicle access point on Constitution Ave. Both officers are facing injuries and one is considered to be critical. According to ABC News, Capitol Police opened fire and one person was shot.

Constitution Avenue between Second Street NE and First Street NW & First Street between Constitution Avenue NE and Independence Avenue SE are currently closed.

All Capitol buildings went into lockdown “due to an external security threat” and individuals have been instructed to not exit or enter.

Reports say that emergency vehicles are at the scene and that one person was seen on a stretcher. A DC fire spokesperson shared with media they were responding to a reported shooting.

The suspect is in custody.
