A beloved George Mason University professor has been killed by his own son in Fairfax County.
Police are reporting that Dr. Michael Buschmann was stabbed to death in his home by his 26-year-old son, Axel. The crime occurred on the 9800 block of Palace Green Way in Vienna, VA on March 2 and the situation appears to be a domestic incident. When police arrived to the scene, they found Axel walking down the street at approx. 5:30PM with a concealed knife in his possession and wounds on his neck. It is unknown if the lacerations were self-inflicted.
Dr. Buschmann was declared dead at the scene and Axel is being hospitalized for stab wounds to his torso. He is being charged for second-degree murder. A motive is currently unknown.
"We did lose a great mind, a great teacher, and by all accounts, a good and decent human being," GMU Vice President and Chief Brand Officer Paul Allvin said.
According to NBC Washington, Dr. Buschmann was "working on technology that would make mRNA vaccines, such as COVID-19 vaccines, less costly, with reduced side effects and more widely available."
