What a night for Chris Young!
A seasoned Grand Ole Opry performer, Chris Young was just playing another night at the famed country music venue in Nashville, TN when he was hit with not one but two major surprises!
Also on the bill for the night was Vince Gill, who was featured on his single "Sober Saturday Night," and following their performances, Vince had a couple of things up his sleeve! Earlier in the day, Chris was told that his 2011 album Neon had officially gone platinum, marking the first time any of his albums had sold 1,000,000 copies.
I can't even tell you how excited I am that I got my first Platinum album tonight!!!! #Neon— ChrisYoungMusic (@ChrisYoungMusic) August 30, 2017
Vince was on-stage with Chris to award him with his platinum record (and also a gold record for their joint #1 in "Sober Saturday Night") followed with a bit of humor, telling the man of the evening that the proper way to respond to his accolades thus far was with "I couldn't have done it without you Vince." *cue laughter*
Vince kept the jokes going by saying that he was never paid for his "Sober Saturday Night" session and that he's "still 5 years away from Social Security," so he proposed a deal with Chris.
"I'll forgive the session fees if you'll be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry."
Needless to say, Chris said yes! He was so ecstatic about the offer that he picked Vince up and gave him a bear hug right on the outskirts of the famed Opry circle.
The country community was thrilled with the Opry's decision to invite Chris into their family and shared their congratulations with the singer!
Chris will officially be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry later this year.
