Eric Church Debuts New Song to Honor Vegas Victim

Eric Church was the headlining act on night 1 of the Route 91 Harvest Festival, the same festival where 58 people lost their lives two days later due to an active shooter in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Eric debuted a new song titled "Why Not Me" at his performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville 3 days after the tragedy, which he dedicated to Sonny Melton, a man who lost his live in Vegas protecting his wife.

Prior to the performance, Church tearfully acknowledged that Sonny and his wife, Heather, were huge fans of his and that he was the reason why they went to Vegas. He continued to say that there were two vacant seats in section 3 row F which belonged to Sonny and Heather. The couple was from Tennessee and had purchased those tickets prior to the Route 91 Harvest Festival.

"I came back up the left side [at Route 91 Harvest Festival], saw smiling faces, hands in the air and pictures being taken … 48 hours later, those places where I stood was carnage" Church said. ""The reason I'm here tonight is because of Heather Melton, and her husband Sonny who died, and every person that was there."
