Capitals' Evgeny Kuznetsov Banned From International Ice Hockey Federation

Washington Capitals' center Evgeny Kuznetsov has gotten himself into a sticky situation.

While at the world championship in May, Kuznetsov tested positive for the use of cocaine and therefore failed a doping test on the same day that the Russian team defeated the Czeck Republic to take home the bronze metal. As a result of the offense, the International Ice Hockey Federation has suspended Kuznetsov "from international play" for the next four years, which includes participating with the national Russian team. While this ban does not affect his playing time with the Capitals (where he is contracted through the 2024-2025 season), it does prohibit him from playing in the 2022 Beijing Olympics as his ban will be lifted on June 12, 2023.
