Ingrid Andress isn’t the person she used to be. The “More Hearts Than Mine” artist released her newest song on Friday morning (May 13), observing what happens when one person in a relationship grows and the other doesn’t see them for the person they’ve become. She explained on Instagram, introducing fans to “Seeing Someone Else”:
“we all grow and change, but not everyone wants us to. some people want to keep you exactly where you are for as long as possible, even if it’s hurting you. sometimes you don’t even realize it’s happening. but then one day you wake up and decide the person they want you to be isn’t you anymore, so you pack your s*** and break free from their grip. I hope this song makes you feel as liberated as I felt when writing it 🖤✋🏼”
The song calls out an ex for only seeing their partner for a previous version of themselves: “I think you're seeing someone else/ I think you're seeing who I used to be/ I bet you wish I was the girl that you met/ Out at a bar, makin' a mess, still 23/ And if you're honest with yourself/ You know you're hanging on the history, yeah, yeah/ You say you're still in love/ But it's so obvious when you look at me/ I think you're seeing someone else/ Woah, woah, yeah/ Woah, woah”
“Seeing Someone Else” is the latest song from Andress since she debuted “Good Person” last month. That song seeks to define what it means to be a “good person,” though many people have different ideas about what that looks like. Andress explained: “Everything is so relative to what we’ve been trained to think in our lives, and that looks so different for everybody. …We all want to be a good person, but none of us can agree on what that looks like. Some of us strive to be the best versions of ourselves because we’re constantly growing and changing.”
