Sophia Kim, Chief Operating Officer, King Spa Virginia

King Spa & Sauna is a unique Korean inspired spa that is known as “Jjim-Jil Bang”. Jjim-Jil Bang spa is one of the many traditional assets that have coexisted in the Korean community. With its own unique cultural blend, the Korean sauna offers great relaxation to relieve stress from the body and mind.

Sophia Kim grew up in South Korea and moved to America as a young adult. Along with studying English Literature and Applied Linguistics in college, she also has a Master’s Degree in Business Management. Since coming to the US, Kim has always tried to stay in tune with a lot of online Korean channels of alternative medicine, functional medicine, heat therapy, and new technology from research in the Korean medical and alternative medicine field.

Kim was able to apply this education, her Business Management skills, and appreciation for Korean medicine and wellness approaches in continuing an incredible business started by her father-in-law. Donald Kim is a first-generation immigrant from South Korea back in 1976. He started this company about 20 years ago in New Jersey. He’s retired now, but he is the pioneer in this Korean-American spa culture – He even has a US patent under his name for the technology we’re using here today. King Spa is family-owned and operated in Chantilly, VA and Niles, IL. Her husband, John and I, took the family business over from him and moved to Northern Virginia from NJ in 2019 to prepare the grand opening for King Spa Virginia. Before that, John and Sophia ran a restaurant and lounge business in Bergen County, NJ.

They opened the VA location in Mid-October last year. This is a 65,000 sq ft building with various saunas, outdoor hydrotherapy & bath pools, jacuzzis, indoor pools to relax and rejuvenate. Along with juice bars, a restaurant, media room, 15 massage rooms, esthetic/facial service rooms, and a beautiful 3rd floor deck with nice views, this facility is certainly one of a kind. Their family is proud of what they've built and would love to introduce you to the Korean tradition of health concepts in a holistic way. We want our patrons to have the authentic spa experience where they can relax, unwind, and feel better leaving King Spa."
