Norm Long grew up in Long Island, NY. His undergraduate studies were in mechanical engineering, where he also took part in Air Force ROTC. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in engineering from Manhattan College, and also received the Air Force ROTC Distinguished Graduate award. While in undergraduate studies, Norm was inducted into Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society. After getting his BSME and Air Force commission, he served four years in the Air Force as a design engineer in facilities management at Andrews Air Force Base.Norm also has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in finance from the University of Maryland.

After four years of active duty, and achieving the rank of captain, Norm received an honorable discharge and went to work for the Washington, D.C. Trane franchise as a sales engineer in the commercial HVAC industry.

Norm joined Havtech (a manufacturers’ representative for commercial heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment) in 1993, became a partner in 1997, and became a majority owner in 2008. Norm has been instrumental in its management and growth over the past 29 years and is currently Chairman. Havtech is the largest commercial HVAC representative organization in the Washington DC area, and one of the largest in the United States. The company provides complete HVAC support including new equipment sales, after market sales, service support, energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis, and building automation controls. Under Norm’s leadership, the company has grown annual revenues 50 fold.In addition to Havtech, additional companies have been founded  or acquired in the HVAC sector serving eastern Pennsylvania (ThermalTech in Pittsburg) and serving Virginia (Air Conditioning Equipment Sales in Richmond/Roanoke/Virgina Beach). Norm is a professional engineer (PE) registered in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC, and LEED AP accredited. 

Norm and his wife Denise have three daughters who are on their own, and all have advanced degrees from the University of Maryland. Norm also serves on a non-profit as an executive board member (No More Stolen Childhoods).Norm and his wife currently reside in Naples, FL.
