In a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Carrie Underwood revealed that she has experienced three miscarriages since the beginning of last year.
The singer is currently pregnant with her and husband Mike Fisher's second child, but the path to baby number two was not easy. In her tear-filled interview, Underwood started off talking about her new album Cry Pretty by saying that "2017 just wasn't how I imagined it."
When questioned by the reporter, Underwood opened up by saying “We got pregnant early 2017, and didn’t work out." She then mentioned she got pregnant again in both spring 2017 and early January 2018 but they yet again "didn't work out."
“At that point, it was just kind of like, ‘Okay, like, what’s the deal? What is all of this?,” she exclaimed following the reveal of her third miscarriage. And even through all of the heartache that came with loosing a pregnancy, Underwood would challenge herself to go to a writing session or photoshoot for work as it was "therapeutic" for her.
Always counting her blessings, Underwood said that she was "afraid to be angry" as she has been very fortunate in her life. "And my son, Isaiah, is the sweetest thing. And he’s the best thing in the world. And I’m like, ‘If we can never have any other kids, that’s okay, because he’s amazing.’ And I have this amazing life. Like, really, what can I complain about? I can’t. I have an incredible husband, incredible friends, an incredible job, an incredible kid. Can I be mad? No.”
Her faith was tested during this time and she recalls a raw, emotional moment that she had while she was sitting with her 3-year-old son, Isaiah. "For the first time, I feel like I actually I told God how I felt,” she said.
Just two days later, doctors confirmed that her pregnancy was "great."
