4 Stops On The Metro's Red Line Will Be Closed This Weekend

If you have plans to travel into DC this weekend from Maryland, you might need to rethink how you're getting downtown.

WMATA has announced that 4 stops on the Metro's Red Line: Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont, will be closed over the coming three-day weekend due to "work related integration of the light Purple Line."

If one of your stops are affected by this closure, shuttles will be available to replace trains between the Glenmont and Takoma stops. Trains will be running every 18 minutes on the red line and on Monday (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), additional trains will be running every 9 minutes between Medical Center and Takoma until 8PM.

The mentioned Purple Line is set to be WMATA's newest line that will run from the Red Line's Bethesda stop around the north east section of the Beltway to the Orange Line's New Carrolton stop. The Red Line's Silver Spring stop is set to transform into a transfer station between the Red and Purple lines, hence the closures for this upcoming weekend.
