Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the NFL Draft will still happen as planned in Las Vegas from April 23-25...but under modified circumstances.
Since the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recommended that gatherings of 50+ people be postponed over the course of the next 8 weeks to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the NFL has decided that there will be no public events in Las Vegas surrounding the draft. The selection process however will still be televised.
"This decision reflects our foremost priority -- the health and safety of all fans and citizens," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "While this outcome is disappointing both to the NFL and to the Las Vegas community, we look forward to partnering with the Raiders, the City of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for a future NFL Draft as well as evaluating opportunities for other major NFL events in Las Vegas in the future, including the Super Bowl."
In a statement published to NFL.com, it is said that the league is still looking into "innovative options for how the process will be conducted and will provide that information as it becomes available."
