The Virginia Department of Forestry is warning people of that one of the most poisonous caterpillars in the United States has been spotted in eastern Virginia counties.
The puss caterpillar may look like a fun, fluffy creature but be aware that this is far from the truth! It's fur is home to venomous spines that when in contact with skin, can feel like a painful bee sting according to National Geographic. It's been reported by the University of Michigan that effects of being pricked by this furry little guy are intense pain, fever, nausea, and even symptoms of shock.
They say that if you come in physical contact with the puss caterpillar, "remove the broken-off spines by using cellophane tape or a commercial facial peel, and call your doctor."
If you spot one, it is best to just leave it be as their natural predators will seek them out.
