I"ve been going to the annual Hunt Cup race in the bucolic rolling hills of Baltimore County for as long as I can remember.
It was the day I asked Cheryl, to marry me, so every year it's become our own little personal anniversary celebration. As the years have passed and our family and friends have grown so has our tailgate. We're up to over 40 friends and family joining in at the back of our car this year. Table cloth covered buffet tables with silver chaffing dishes and flower vases ornament many of the themed tailgators spreads. This year for our party, the theme is 'Maryland, My Maryland.' So the bow ties and hats will likely reflect the 'Old Line' state's traditional coat of arms in yellow, red , white and black.
Hunt Cup tailgators are serious. No burger and hotdogs here. You'll more likely to so a fully stocked bar with hors d'oeuvres, and full catered meals. Many Hunt Cup regulars are used to sparing no expense on this annual rite of Spring in Maryland.
From the dress, (the preppier the better), to the cars/trucks from Woodies to Range Rovers to antiques from nearly 100 years ago, people come to Hunt Cup to show off exuberance, tradition and style. The more expensive the parking area, the more impressive the tailgate, typically. I'll take you to the $200 parking area this weekend and you'll see when I post pics on my socials, society life on full display. Follow me @michaeljOnair everywhere.
