Maryland Couple Thought $50K Lottery Ticket Was Worth $50

A Maryland couple got the surprise of a lifetime after mistakenly believing that her winning lottery ticket was worth $50 instead of $50,000. The Woodstock-based couple was visiting their local liquor store when they decided to buy a Multi-Match ticket and a stack of scratch-offs on a whim. Luck was on their side when the wife thought she'd won $50 from a $5 Maryland Lottery Gold ticket. But when she went to cash it, the store clerk told her she had to go "somewhere else" because it was not a $50 ticket they had, but a $50,000 top prize winner. The couple says the winnings will go toward family savings and a "possible future landscaping project."
