NBC4 Washington has reported that a young boy in DC lost his thumb and two additional fingers in an illegal fireworks accident. The boy was lighting a "cherry bomb" firework with the intention of throwing it on the ground, but he reacted too slowly and therefore lost three of his fingers. There was reportedly another boy on the site of the incident and while both are currently being hospitalized, they are expected to be OK.
Several types of fireworks, including the cherry bomb firework, are illegal in DC and if caught with them in your possession, you could face upwards of a $2,000 fine or even jail time.
