U.S. News & World Report released their 2019-20 Best Hospitals list and Baltimore's own Johns Hopkins Hospital ranked as the #3 out of approx. 5,000 hospitals in the country. Johns Hopkins only trailed Massachusetts General Hospital (#2) and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN (#1). Factors that contribute to the rankings include: survival rates, patient safety, specialized staff and hospital reputation.
Besides the bronze medal ranking of the third best overall hospital in the United States, they also ranked as the following in 15 sub-categories:

- #2 in Urology
- #3 in Gastroenterology & GI Surgery

- #9 in Pulmonology & Lung Surgery
