Have a need for a bottle of wine but want to practice human social distancing? Stone House Urban Winery in Hagerstown, MD has got you covered.
Since the coronavirus pandemic shut down in-store operations for food/alcohol distributors, Stone House Urban Winery got creative with their curbside delivery process to abide by the recommended 6ft social distancing practice...and to entice customers! The winery's owner, Lori Yata, thought up the idea of enlisting her 11-year-old, 75 lb brindle boxer named Soda Pup to be the official wine delivery dog and he's been a very good boy at doing his job!
“If anybody calls him, he will go,” she said to Herald Mail Media. “We tuck the wine in his vest and send him out with the wine bottles. If people don’t want to come in contact with us physically, dogs are not supposed to be able to carry the virus.”
Soda Pup's vest consists of a saddle bag (that is typically seen on a horse) with two pouches for the wine! But the only catch is that if a smaller animal walks by...the survival rate of the wine bottles is going to drop dramatically.
“I thought, ‘God, please don’t let a goose or something walk by or those wine bottles are gone,’” Yata said.
