Mayor Muriel Bowser announced today (April 17) that DC public schools will remain physically closed for the remainder of the academic year and that while students will continue with online learning, the school year will commence on May 29...three weeks earlier than the original June 19 end date.
Details regarding "summer learning opportunities" are still to be announced and according to reporter Tom Rousey, it is possible that the 2020-2021 school year could start early to make up for the three weeks that they will be short this year. More information regarding the summer session and the next academic year will be discussed by May 15.
