Gov. Hogan Allows Salons & Barbers To Re-Open For Essential Workers

On Monday, April 20, Gov. Larry Hogan amended an previous order so that salons and barbers can now service essential personnel in Maryland.

According to the modified order, these businesses must remain closed to the general public but are allowed to schedule essential personnel one customer at a time and face masks must be worn but both parties.

The order also states that "the services performed must be necessary for the Customer to meet grooming standards established by the Customer’s Employer" and "the Customer must provide the Barber/Salon with written documentation of the Employer's grooming standards. Such documentation may include, but is not limited to, a letter from the Employer or a copy of the Employer’s policy establishing the grooming standards. The Baber/Salon must retain a copy of the documentation."

In addition, all grooming establishments must obtain each customer's phone number in the event that an employee of the barbershop or salon tests positive for COVID-19. If this situation does occur, they must call and notify every customer that was serviced two weeks prior to the diagnosis.
