DC Football Will Temporarily Use "Washington Football Team" As New Name

Amid Social And Corporate Pressure, Washington Redskins Consider Name Change

Earlier this month, the Washington Redskins announced that they were officially retiring the name and logo that fans have grown to know them by.

While there has not been any official word yet on what their name name will be, what we do know is that effective immediately they will refer to themselves as the Washington Football Team, until their new name is finalized.

Adam Schefter, ESPN Senior NFL Insider, broke the news on Twitter saying that "[t]his is not a final renaming and rebranding for team; this is the name it wants to use until pending adoption of a new name in the future."

Schefter also revealed the team's temporary uniforms. The Washington Football Team will keep the Redskins' burgundy and gold colors and the uniforms overall are very similar to what we're familiar with DC wearing on the field. The only exception is that the former Redskins logo has been removed from the helmet and will be replaced with the player's number. These are the uniforms the team will wear for their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 13.

ESPN has also reported that "[f]ans will be able to purchase "Washington Football Team" merchandise from Fanatics and NFL Shop in the coming days."
