Silver Spring Sailor Serves in Philippine Sea

USS Germantown (LSD 42) Sails in Formation with USS America (LHA 8) and USS New Orleans (LPD 18)

PHILIPPINE SEA (Aug. 25, 2020): Lt. j. g. Shayla Friesen, from Silver Spring, Md., left, stands watch as the officer of the deck and Lt. j. g. Matteo Macaluso, from Chapin, S.C., stands watch as the junior officer of the watch on the bridge of the amphibious dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42) as the ship sails in formation with the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) and the amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans (LPD 18). Germantown, part of America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit team is operating in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners, and serves as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
