QB Alex Smith & Washington Football Team "To Part Ways"

Washington Football Team v Pittsburgh Steelers

The 2020 Comeback Player of the Year will not be coming back to DC, reports are saying.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted the news saying that it is expected to become official in a few days that QB Alex Smith & the Washington Football Team will be going their separate ways. The 36-year-old player still wants to play in the NFL, just not here in the nation's Capital.

While Smith only played in 6 games during the 2020 season, he went 5-1 and helped lead the Washington Football Team to become NFC East Division Champs. Back in 2018 Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury on the field, which required 17 surgeries to save from amputation. Due to his injury, he sat out the entire 2019 season.

In a new interview with GQ Magazine, Smith believes that his ability to play post-recovery put a "wrench" into the WFT's plans for QB last summer and that he was frustrated that he felt like his team didn't want him.

"They never thought I was coming back. No one there. I did all my rehab outside of the building," Smith said in the interview. "They didn't see it, didn't want me there, didn't want me to be a part of it, didn't want me to be on the team, the roster, didn't want to give me a chance."
